What causes cellulite?
Before diving into solutions, it's essential to understand what cellulite is. Cellulite appears when fat deposits push through the connective tissue beneath the skin, leading to a dimpled or lumpy appearance, commonly on the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen.
When your skin is healthy, cellulite will be less obvious.
Factors contributing to cellulite include:
- Genetics: Family history can play a role. Some women show less cellulite because they have inherited this trait from their parents.
- Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations, especially during pregnancy or menstruation, can influence its development. With age, our collagen production decreases, which means the skin is weaker and cellulite becomes more visible. Increasing collagen production with strengthen skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
- Lifestyle: Diet, exercise, and hydration levels impact skin health.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but cellulite is more common in women because of the way their fat cells are structured. Equally, women carry more body fat because that is supposed to help carry a baby during pregnancy and to look after it at times of little food.
Although this much fat is no longer needed for survival in most modern countries, evolution means that women still carry it.
What can I do about this? You might ask.

Conclusion: healthy body, healthy skin
If it is not obvious, natural remedies for cellulite are just plain healthy living. If you stick to a healthy diet and lifestyle, then you can improve most skin problems naturally.
Unlike acne for example, cellulite is part of your genetic makeup – it is part of you. If you have fat on your body, you have cellulite. This means that you can’t actually get rid of cellulite. So if you ever see any products (like body cream) that claim to help you get rid of cellulite, stay away. That stuff doesn’t work.
If you are healthy, then you shouldn’t worry about a little bit of cellulite. And how much of it do people see anyway?
Let’s be realistic. Most of the time, you wear trousers or long dresses. Nobody sees your legs, but you, in the shower. For 5 minutes in the day.
Personally, I have much more interesting things to think about, than some bit of cellulite on my thighs.
